Design-a-Bus Contest
2013
14th Annual
Kids Design-a-Bus
Contest
TARC and KAIRE
are partnering for the 14th Annual Kids Designa-Bus contest.
This year’s theme is “I Care about the Air.”
Design
criteria and resources
The
Design-a-Bus contest is open to all elementary and middle school students in
Jefferson, Oldham, and Bullitt counties in Kentucky and Floyd and
Clark counties in southern Indiana. Twelve winners will have their posters
displayed on a TARC bus, and winners and
their guardians will be invited to ride the bus in next year’s Kentucky Derby
Festival Republic Bank Pegasus Parade
on Thursday, May 2, 2013. Artwork becomes the property of TARC. Some potential
artwork ideas include planting a tree, riding a bike, remembering to turn out
the lights before leaving the house, and
reminding parents or older siblings not to leave their vehicles idling for too
long. For further inspiration, students are
encouraged to visit www.helptheair.org and other websites relating to clean
air. Design-a-Bus is great as a
class project and we encourage teachers and administrators to get in touch with
us for ideas or suggestions.

2012
TARC and Louisville Mayor Greg Fischer partnered for the 13th
Annual Kids Design-a-Bus contest. This year's theme was "Helping
Others - Creating a Compassionate City" and sought to build off the
"Compassionate Louisville" initiative recently embarked upon by Mayor
Fischer and Louisville Metro Government.
The annual contest encourages students in Louisville and southern Indiana to create
posters illustrating a particular theme. We selected 13 winners, and the winning participants artwork is displayed as a collage outside of the 2011 Kids Salute TARC
bus. This bus travels on routes throughout the Louisville metro area and will be
a part of TARC’s Youth Education programs.
