Blue Moon’s Kentucky Derby Free Rides returns to provide Louisville with a safe ride home

May 3, 2022

Program encourages celebrating responsibly through fare-free service on TARC

As a part of the company’s commitment to alcohol responsibility, Molson Coors is partnering with Transit Authority of River City (TARC) to offer fare-free service for those taking part in Kentucky Derby festivities. Fare-free rides will begin at 4:00 a.m. on Friday, May 6, and be offered through end of service on Saturday, May 7. Rides are sponsored through the company’s Blue Moon Free Rides program, which encourages celebrating responsibly by providing safe and free transportation.

“Whether you’re celebrating on Derby Eve or headed to the race track on Saturday, we’re providing a free and safe option to all this Derby weekend,” said Tami Garrison, Community Affairs Director. “It’s programs like Free Rides that make me proud to work for a company so committed to leaving a positive impact on the communities it serves. This commitment especially shines through not only this weekend, but throughout the year, as our Free Rides program is offered on other major celebrations and holidays in cities across the country.”

Nearly nine million people across the county have participated in the company’s Free Rides programs over the course of three decades. Molson Coors and TARC have partnered for its Kentucky Derby Free Rides program for over a decade, so those celebrating the Derby can bet on getting home safe. This year, the local program anticipates providing safe, free transportation to more than 15,000 passengers in Greater Louisville.

TARC will operate its normal service on all fixed routes for both days. Passengers can skip the fare box and take the route to Oaks and Derby or any other destination. “We are excited to be partnering with Molson Coors for the return of the Blue Moon Free Rides program this year,” said Carrie Butler, Executive Director of TARC. “The program serves those throughout the greater Louisville area, so no matter where you might be celebrating around the city, we make it easy for residents and visitors to get home safely on Friday and Saturday.”

Easy trip planning, maps and schedules are available at ridetarc.org, on the Transit app and Google Maps. For additional assistance, TARC customer service representatives can be reached at (502) 585-1234; TTY (502) 213-3240.
