Overview of January 2025 service changes

Effective January 26, 2025, TARC will implement a series of service reductions and service changes. These service changes include one route discontinuation, route merging, routing reductions, and frequency adjustments.

See below for an overview of service changes, pocket schedules, and relevant maps.

Route merging: #22 Twenty Second Street (will be merged with the #18 Dixie Highway), and #63 Crums Lane (will be merged into the #29 Eastern Parkway)

#22 Twenty Second Street

  • The #22 Twenty Second Street, which serves the 22nd Street corridor from Portland to Park DuValle (September 2024 average daily boardings: 49) will now be absorbed to the #18
    • Loss of coverage in the Park Duvalle Neighbohood.  Riders in the Park Duvalle Neighborhood will continue to have the option of using the #19 Muhammad Ali Boulevard.
    • Loss of service in the Victory Park area and south of Algonquin Parkway at Bells Lane.

#63 Crums Lane

  • The #63 Crums Lane, which serves Pleasure Ridge Park, Shively, into Downtown (September 2024 average daily boardings: 399) will now be absorbed by #29.
    • In addition to the #29, riders can use Routes #6, #10, #18, or #19 as alternatives, depending on where they are boarding.
    • In the downtown areas passengers may use #4 or # 6
    • Loss of complete coverage for route #63 will be from 7th and Central to 7th and Berry in both directions.
      • Cane Run @Terry Road to Raggard Road will not be served by route #63, this section will still be covered by #19 that travels to Riverport only.

Route discontinuation: #52 Medical Circulator

  • The #52 Medical Center Circulator, which serves Market @ 8th Street to the LOUMED hospital district (September 2024 average weekday boardings: 57)
    • Route alternatives: Riders will continue to have the option of accessing the LOUMED hospital district via Routes #15, #19 #21, #23, #28, and #43.

#17 Bardstown Road

  • Reduction in route length from northern end of line on 8th @ Market to Eastern Parkway @ Bardstown
    • Eastern Parkway @ Bardstown to become major transfer point
    • Route alternatives: Riders needing to go downtown can catch the #23 Broadway along Bardstown, or #40 starting at Taylorsville

#18 Dixie Highway

  • Absorbing Route #22 north of Algonquin Parkway
    • North end of line to be moved from Jefferson @ 6th to Northwestern @ 22nd
    • Improved service on Saturday and Sunday (Route #22 did not operate on weekends)
      • Route #18 frequency remains 40 minutes daily.
        • Sections north of Hill Street will see improved frequency
    • Loss of downtown connection to Routes #2, #4, #6, #28 #31, #40, and #72
      • Route alternatives: opportunities to reconnect along Routes #10, #15 #23, and #43
  • Last Southbound trip will leave Portland Family Health Center 10:09pm
    • Last Northbound trip will leave Dixie @ Greenwood @ 11:00pm
  • Discontinued service south of Greenwood Road to Meijers via Stonestreet Road and Valley Station Road.

#25 Oak Street

  • Route adjustment Eastbound from the NIA Center, left on Broadway traveling west, to left on Cecil Ave, left on Greenwood Ave, right on 28th Street to regular route east.
    • Route adjustment Eastbound will continue down Westport Road, make a left on Springhurst Blvd, (make a short loop inside the shopping center), turn left on Westport Road. turn left on Chamberlain Lane and terminate at Norton Hospital.
    • Route adjustment Westbound from Chamberlain Lane make a short loop inside Springhurst shopping center.
    • Route adjustment westbound from 28th Street make a left on Greenwood Ave make a right turn on Cecil Ave, a right turn on Broadway, and terminate at Nia Center. The route will no longer continue to Shawnee Park. 
    • Frequency improved from 70 minutes to 60 minutes.

#29 Eastern Parkway

  • Absorbing #63 coverage of Crums Lane Trips will remain on Crums Lane to Cane Run Road, through onto the Greenbelt to serve Lower Hunters Trace to Terry Road to current routing to West Pages Lane. Routing will remain the same after Lower Hunters Trace to keep service to PRP High School and the current neighborhood south of PRP.  Trips will travel to West Pages Lane on Terry Road and alternate trips via Crums Lane and Rockford Lane.
    • Frequency improved from 60 minutes to 50 minutes.
    • There will be no loss of coverage from Berry and Manslick to Manslick and Crums Lane in both directions. The Rockford Lane trips will turn left on Dixie, right on Rockford Lane. The Crums Lane trips will stay on Crums Lane.
    • Loss of coverage for Route #29 in both directions will now be from 7th and Berry to Crums Lane on 7th Street, (this portion will be served by Route #18 only), and on Terry Road between Cane Run and Lower Hunters Trace, this section will still be covered by route #19 that travels to Riverport only.

Scheduling and frequency changes: #4 Fourth Street, #10 Dixie Rapid, #40 Taylorsville Road

#4 Fourth Street

  • Change of frequency from 15 to 20 minutes
    • South Side Branch will only serve Glengarry/National Turnpike
      • Branch Southside to Glengarry/National Turnpike ends after 7pm weekdays.
        • No Service to Glengarry/National Turnpike or Southside Drive on weekends.
    • Last trip Southbound leaves 6th @ Market, weekday 10:20pm; Saturday and Sunday 10:31pm 
    • Last trip Northbound leaves Walmart, weekday 11:15pm; Saturday and Sunday 11:10pm

#10 Dixie Rapid

  • Change of frequency from 15 minutes to 20 minutes
    • Service to Watson Lane discontinued. Southern end of line will be Dixie Gardens Dr.
    • Last bus Southbound to leave downtown at 10:30 p.m. Last bus Northbound to leave Dixie Gardens 11:27pm

#40 Taylorsville Road

  • Frequency improved from 90 minutes to 70 minutes seven days a week.

Minor scheduling changes: #6 Sixth Street, #15 Market Street, #21 Chestnut Street

#6 Sixth Street

  • Last trip Southbound will leave 6th @ Market daily at 10:00pm
    • Last trip Northbound leaves Walmart daily at 11:09pm;
    • Last two trips Northbound will service St. Mary and Elizabeth Hospital.
    • The 12:02x trip Northbound from Walmart will be eliminated.

#15 Market Street

  • Improved start time westbound leaving Holiday Manor at 5:51am
    • Last trip Westbound leaving Holiday Manor @ 11:14pm terminating at Shawnee Park @ 12:12am

  • Improved Eastbound timing leaving Shawnee Park at 4:27 a.m., arriving at WE Seay Plaza 15 min earlier
