TARC to host virtual Capital Program of Projects public meeting

November 18, 2024

TARC will host a virtual public meeting on Monday, November 25, 2024, at 4:00 p.m. to present our annual Capital Program of Projects and solicit community feedback.
Information on joining the meeting can be found at the bottom of this notice.

The purpose of the meeting is to provide an opportunity for members of our community to ask questions or to comment on TARC’s proposed use of Federal funds. The projects will utilize Federal formula funds apportioned to TARC during fiscal year (FY) 2024.

TARC is requesting an amount of $21,309,321 in total Federal funds available to the Louisville Urbanized area to carry out the following projects:

  • Architectural and Engineering Services
  • Management Information System Equipment (Hardware and Software)
  • Security Enhancements
  • Rehabilitation of Facilities
  • Capital Maintenance
  • Non-Fixed Route ADA Paratransit Service
  • Capital Cost of Contracted Fixed Route Service
  • Support Equipment
  • Replacement 40’ Buses
  • Other 3rd Party Contractual Services
  • Replacement Support Vehicles
  • Miscellaneous Equipment

All projects will be located in the Louisville Metropolitan area.

Federal formula funds dedicated to transit are apportioned to regions on the basis of legislative formulas. For areas with populations of 200,000 and more – like the Louisville region – the formula is based on a combination of transit vehicle revenue miles and transit passenger miles as well as population and population density. Any projects using federal formula funds for transit require that transit agencies provide a local match – usually 20 percent of the total cost.

No persons, families, or businesses will be displaced by any of these projects.  No significant environmental impact is expected from these projects.

Comprehensive Planning: The projects are in general conformance with the comprehensive land use and transportation planning of the area, and are included in the FY 2024 Annual Element of KIPDA’s Transportation Improvement Program and Unified Planning Work Program.

Elderly and Disabled: The projects proposed to be undertaken by these grants include special services for the elderly and disabled of Louisville and Jefferson County.  A detailed description of these elements for these projects will be included in the grant applications.

TARC invites private citizens, agencies, local officials and private transportation providers to comment as to the social, economic, and environmental aspects of the projects. This proposed Program of Projects will be final unless amended. Copies of the Program of Projects, along with KIPDA’s current Transportation Improvement Program, are available at www.ridetarc.org.
